Nope, it was Brian Williams and Lester Holt talking about legalized recreational MJ and actually using the word “munchies.”

+1, but this is really your area of expertise, no?

is shark an option?

Shark, duh.

I give this one a fair amount of thought - given my history with shark costumes. I even went so far as to try (in the middle of a Target) modifying a shark costume intended for small dogs into a headpiece.

Sloth, for the irony.

While I like this idea, how does one make a sloth costume? Do I run the 10k clutching plastic 3M hooks and reaching for trees?

black panther! or a black cat. or a cheetah with melanism. something swift and sleek.

It just so happens that I work out in all black attire 99% of the time, so this idea seemed like a natural fit. However, I am not entirely certain there is a single non-racist way for me to do this, you know?

Tortoise.

Classic, but I can’t imagine running a 10k with a shell of any material strapped to my back.

Go full racing greyhound. You already have the number on, so just find a cage-style face mask and find someone dressed as a rabbit to chase.

I particularly like the idea of working the race number into the ensemble, but I’m not sure I can do this without looking like a knockoff Bane…and that would be awkward.

So! I liked the big black cat idea, and it turns out my new-ish running sneakers are black and hot orange - so, tiger it is! Pics tomorrow. :)

Ben is probably the only person on Tumblr who also recalls this tradition from my old Blogger days (Blogger days were pre-Tumblr but post-LJ).

Oh, how far we’ve come, old friend.

Did you punch him? Those roller skis are dumbbbbbbbbbbb.

No. I mean, he already has to roller ski on January 8th. I figure the guy has got it pretty rough as it is, you know?

WHAT IS WITH THIS TERRIBLE WEATHER #garbageyear (Actually, I rode around this weekend and Mpls is not too shabby without snow/with cold.)

I thought of you on my ride when I passed a cross-country skier on the bike path in their winter gear but having to use those little roller skis that people use in the summertime and I was like, “oh, man, that dude must be piiiiiiiiiissed.”

How long is your ride? I’ve been riding into the wind for 20 minutes the past couple of days and I haven’t noticed cold toes yet. Make sure your two sock layers aren’t cutting off circulation. I use XL wool socks over my regulars and loosen my shoes.

liquidchroma replied to your post: annicka replied to your photo: First below…

Snowboard socks will definitely be a bit warmer but they probably won’t do anything about the wind, which is the real issue.

draynd replied to your post: annicka replied to your photo: First below…

i’ve been debating a pair of these: goo.gl/xpIRL over sneakers, due to being conceptually windproof. after the ride in this morning, i’m VERY interested. not as cheap as the Gore’s, but maybe more insulating?

robosheep replied to your photo: First below freezing bike ride into campus earlier…

That’s adorable. Wearing too many socks in too small a boot may have actually made your foot colder

Robosheep: watch your tone, young man. While I take the joke and recognize we’ve had some snarky banter back and forth on Tumblr (I’ve already admitted that I’m a BIKE WINTER n00b), this is a learning process and sometimes that kind of snark isn’t exactly helpful, you know? I dunno, maybe my drynuary is already making me edgy. :: shrug ::

Nothing about my setup was particularly constricting - I have always had wide feet as it is, so I stay pretty aware when I’m shopping/gearing up as to whether or not things are getting a little tight. And, for that matter, my original post noted that I was fine today (my ride isn’t long - about 20 minutes as well, depending on traffic) but could tell that I’d need to figure something else out before the temps go down a bit further. As I’ve already dropped some $$ gearing up otherwise, I was hoping to get by with some relatively inexpensive layering before spending another $50+ on shoe covers. I’ll try to snag some wool socks to pull over my regular athletic ones.
