oh my god it's windy and sunny

I’ve never plugged a Kickstarter project on this Tumblr but, you know, first time for whatever and all that.

Ashley Altadonna is a transsexual filmmaker based out of Milwaukee, WI. She is also someone I would count among my friends in that city. Currently, she is trying to raise money for both her gender confirmation surgery and the documentary - Making the Cut - that she has been working on since 2008. The film captures her own journey, and explores the many and varied notions of gender generally.

Along the way, she happened to interview Ekko Galaxie and the Rings of Saturn - the glam rock tribute band that I co-fronted/was involved with while living in Milwaukee. The above video contains a bit of that interview, and also includes a performance by us for her Making the Cut Drag Spektacular benefit show. In the video, you’ll find me Ekko explaining the intergalactic origins of the band, as well as the band’s own mashup-within-a-mashup, as we snuck Girl Talk’s Lil’ Mama/Metallica mashup into the middle of our take on Peaches “Boys Wanna Be Her.”

Anyway, here is the Kickstarter page she’s been running to support the documentary. I’m posting it because 1) it is a great project, and I want to see Ashley supported and 2) a selfish desire to see the eternal and sexually ambiguous soul of Ekko & Co. potentially live on in film! If you’re into this sort of thing, check it out and offer your support.

Like the old saying goes: you can take the boy out of the glam rock tribute band, but you can’t take the glam rock tribute band out of the boy.

No, I’m not thinking about glam rock today at all.
(STONEFLY! TONIGHT! YOU SHOULD COME!)

Longtime followers of this Tumblr will recall that I play in a pretty EPIC glam rock tribute band called “Ekko Galaxie & the Rings of Saturn.” Well, we’ve been out of action as of late - but are pleased to announce a new show! Below is the info from the FB event page (you can be a fan of EGATROS on FB, too!). If you’re in or around Milwaukee, you should totes come. If you’re not, you should totes come anyway.

Hello, hello, we’re back again!EKKO GALAXIE AND THE RINGS OF SATURN return to Earth on December 4th after a long/brief (depending on your native race’s sensitivity to time) hiatus from music. On the night of their glorious return, they will be joined by special guests THE HULLMEN at Riverwest’s Stonefly Brewing Company.By way of a brief update, here’s what Ekko & Co. were up to during their vacation:- Ekko took some much needed time off to settle a few personal matters (that may or may not have involved a divorce and/or warrant for his arrest) in the Andromeda galaxy. He also spent two weeks recovering from cosmetic surgery on his lower intestine.-The Ring King Oberon embarked on a book tour of the moons of Saturn, promoting his latest release “The Poetry of the Infinites and Other Oddities.” He also welcomed into the universe the first of his progeny. As is customary for his race, he celebrated with a feast and a nap.- Saffron Starr personally funded and oversaw the building of a brand new, state of the art hospital on Neptune. (This was to make up for his burning down two other hospitals, also on Neptune, during the band’s last tour.)-Dr. MAN was busy forming an intergalactic hippie collective dedicated to space farming organic Targashian Plums on the seventh moon of C’notta-146.- Nigel Workmanlike opened a tea shop.We hope to see all you pretty things on December 4th!

Hello, hello, we’re back again!

EKKO GALAXIE AND THE RINGS OF SATURN return to Earth on December 4th after a long/brief (depending on your native race’s sensitivity to time) hiatus from music. On the night of their glorious return, they will be joined by special guests THE HULLMEN at Riverwest’s Stonefly Brewing Company.

By way of a brief update, here’s what Ekko & Co. were up to during their vacation:

- Ekko took some much needed time off to settle a few personal matters (that may or may not have involved a divorce and/or warrant for his arrest) in the Andromeda galaxy. He also spent two weeks recovering from cosmetic surgery on his lower intestine.

-The Ring King Oberon embarked on a book tour of the moons of Saturn, promoting his latest release “The Poetry of the Infinites and Other Oddities.” He also welcomed into the universe the first of his progeny. As is customary for his race, he celebrated with a feast and a nap.

- Saffron Starr personally funded and oversaw the building of a brand new, state of the art hospital on Neptune. (This was to make up for his burning down two other hospitals, also on Neptune, during the band’s last tour.)

-Dr. MAN was busy forming an intergalactic hippie collective dedicated to space farming organic Targashian Plums on the seventh moon of C’notta-146.

- Nigel Workmanlike opened a tea shop.

We hope to see all you pretty things on December 4th!
