So…I’m contemplating buying a new bike. I love my old skool Trek (the thing is an early to mid 80s model, lugged steel frame, huge, durable, comfortable) and want to convert it to my workhorse bike - because I currently use it on long rides and whatnot, I’ve been reluctant to add racks, fenders, etc… But that is getting to be a pain; after 5 years of loading down backpacks and dangerously hanging grocery bags of my handlebars, I want to turn this thing into something I can haul stuff around on.
With that in mind, I am looking for something to take on long rides, and to cruise around town with when I’m just out and about and not shopping or trudging through crappy weather. I need something that doesn’t start shaking like crazy when I get up to 30 mph but I also don’t need any real speed - comfort on long rides is more important to me. I am thinking about the Surly Pacer, and wondered: what are your thoughts, Tumblr?

Make sure you test ride a bunch of bikes and get your reach figured out. If you’re too stretched out, no variation of tires will make it more comfy. 4130 is the median standard tubeset. Good, but not special. 32h wheels are not as strong as 36.

My long haul trucker shakes dangerously above 34, it wouldn’t surprise me if the pacer did too, they aren’t fast bikes those surlys

with that reasoning, and keeping the Trek as a workhorse, i’m even more in agreement. this would be a solid choice. and a sexy one at that.
